How would you describe your personal style?

I don’t really know if I have a specific style. One of my friends said trendy mom (laughs).  I just kind of dress with what I like. Southern California definitely influences my style, and just the style in Long Beach is very different from LA, so the mixture of those two influence me most.

What is your favorite article of clothing?

It’s probably this pink hat I have on.  Hats are a staple in my life.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I love Madewell.  Everything they touch is gold! Most of my wardrobe is probably from there.  I also work at Fox & Gray which is a boutique here in Waco. So I’ve started shopping there all of the time, and it has definitely influenced my style.  I love going out of my comfort zone and trying new things.

When did you start paying attention to fashion?

I have always learned from my mom and the women in my family to dress up and to dress your best. It’s always been a fun part of growing up for me to try new styles, and I have loved clothes since I was little.

Has your style changed since coming to Texas?

Yes and no.  When I first moved here I was very shocked at how casual everyone dressed to classes.  I thought that I had to adapt to that. I need to be wearing t-shirts and running shorts too, but I couldn’t do it. It took me more effort to wear t-shirts and running shorts than it did to put on jeans and a top. I think every freshman goes through a little bit of figuring out who they are. So it changed for a little bit, but I ended up going back to my aesthetic Californian roots.  I think it shifted a little bit when I started working at Fox & Gray too because I had more of a reason to dress up.

Which current trends are you in to right now?

I love bandanas, or hair scarves or whatever they’re used for.  I wear them somewhere on my body almost every day. You can put them on bags or in your hair or around your neck.  I just think they’re great! I also love burnt orange. Orange is everywhere right now. I got these shoes from Target the other day, they’re amazing, and they’re orange. I like wide-leg jeans also.

What do you look for when you go shopping?

It depends what I’m going for. Usually I go with a purpose, so I’ll look for a classic piece that’s really good quality  that I can wear forever and with anything. Whether that’s a really good white t-shirt or a nice pair of shoes that will never wear out. If I see something that’s super out of the ordinary that nobody else would have but it’s true to my style, I would look for that.

What makes you excited about fashion?

Probably just the diversity that is in fashion. I think there is so many different looks and styles that people can use to express themselves. I love when I see people wearing an outfit that maybe I would never wear, but it’s a cool and stylish way that they used to express themselves.
