Pigskin Costumes

Homecoming is a time full of festivities for not only current students but returning alumni. From the football game, the bonfire, and the parade campus is bustling all week long. One of the most popular events, Pigskin Revue, is back in person this year after being virtual last fall. This tradition, which started in 1958 as a way to present the top 8 Sing acts from the spring, is an entertaining showcase of the creativity and hard work from the students in winning organizations.

The music, backdrop, and dance numbers are all classic aspects of these performances, but the costumes are what make each individual stand out. These costumes always match the theme and story, while also being eye catching to the audience. Here is a in depth look into the top 3 acts being their costume design!

Sing Alliance: Stupid Cupid

In Sing 2020, Sing Alliance wowed everyone with their playful storyline, strong vocals, and captivating visuals. Sticking with their theme of love and cupid, the girls wear bright red dresses that move with ease, adding an additional element of movement to their show. These dresses are paired with iconic white gogo boots and heart shaped pink glasses. The boys are dressed in dapper white button ups with bright red suspenders to match the dresses of the girls. This look all together further shows the bright playfulness that made their act so… loved!

Phi Kappa Chi: So Tied Up

The second-place winning act delivered an emotional and inspiring performance that had everyone in the audience moved. The stunning backdrop, powerful vocal performances, and the hopeful message made it an unforgettable performance. Their stage costumes consist of green, red, and blue long sleeves paired with brown patchwork pants. In order to make them scarecrows, they wear a straw collar around the top of the shirt and a brown brimmed hat that they then use during the hymn to create added dramatic affect. All these aspects together give them the rustic scarecrow look, while also maintaining brilliant visual looks.

Kappa Kappa Gamma and Kappa Sigma: The Ship of Dreams

This winning act has a showstopping performance with high energy, complex dance numbers, and a untraditional sing ending that leaves everyone shocked. This act has a huge wow-factor which makes it the perfect way to end the show for this year’s Pigskin. With their theme of Titanic, they play with the 1st class and the 3rd class citizens on board for some variation in costumes. The 1st class citizens wear classy formal outfits including red satin dresses with nude heels for the girls, and stylish suits for the boys. For the 3rd class citizens, they wear more subdued outfits, which communicates the divide between them and the 1st class. The girls are seen wearing white blouses with yellow circle skirts, and the boys are in white button ups, brown trousers, and newsboy caps. These outfits give a nod to the 1910s fashion during the time of the titanic, while still remaining modern enough to be refreshing.

These performances have been crafted with creativity and intentionality which can be seen with the concept and attention to detail in all of the costumes.
