First Lady Fashion

In honor of President’s Day, we at Buttoned want to highlight and celebrate the fashion of one of the most beloved First Ladies in all of history: Jacqueline Kennedy. Jackie was a writer, activist, and photographer, and many regard her as a deeply-influential style icon during and after her role as a First Lady.

For this 1960 park picnic photo, Kennedy candidly smiles, enjoying an outing in a classy pastel shift dress. Always one to look effortlessly beautiful even for casual affairs, her ability to amaze in simplicity stands out.

Donning a camel trench coat, Kennedy stylishly paired a scarf, large sunglass frames, and a leather purse with a pulled back hairstyle. We love how this look uses patterns, silhouettes, and shapes to elevate a muted color palette!

Out walking the streets of New York City, Kennedy stepped out in a classy mini skirt and kept it simple with gold hoops and black sunglasses. The belt adds structure and form to her outfit and gives this look a timeless element.

Throughout the years, Jackie Kennedy was considered a huge influence on American fashion during her years as a President’s wife. She rewrote the ideas of how First Ladies were to look and dress. Her boldness and creativity regarding her fashion choices made her an icon in American culture.
