Sarah Carr
Class: 2019
Major: French and Spanish
Hometown: Columbus, Ohio
Sarah has style, plain and simple. After studying abroad twice and learning about countless cultures, she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to following different trends. Most of the time she’s wearing ensembles from Paris thrift shops only dreamt about before or sporting unique pieces gifted from around the world. For every reason just named, Sarah is this week’s So Hot Right Now.
How would you describe your style?
Eclectic. I like to listen to my moods. I’m all over the place. [Laughs] Sometimes my style could be described as Retro 80’s, sometimes it’s Artsy Chic, and sometimes it’s something else. I just want to dress like myself. Ascribing to one type of style doesn’t fit me.
Where is your favorite place to shop?
Definitely thrift stores. There’s this great thrift store back in Ohio called Volunteers of America. It’s sort of like a Goodwill. I also studied abroad in a Paris and found this amazing thrift store called Guerrisol. They have some super amazing, off-the-wall stuff.
What trends are you currently into?
Shoulder pads. Always. [Laughs] I’d say everything simple and not form-fitting. Mixing different patterns and such. I wear a lot of black with some accent colors. I’ll do my eyebrows different colors and wear a colored earring in my ear.
From where do you get your style inspiration?
I get inspiration from films and life. I love looking around and seeing what others around me are creating. I’ll put my own spin on someone’s art. Like if someone is creating unique fabric combinations, I like to notice that. I also love old and foreign films. For example, the outfit I’m wearing right now could be out of an Asian film.
What is one fashion item you cannot live without?
Probably my platform shoes because I think that shoes are the most interesting part of an outfit. You can completely change the look of an outfit with just shoes. Also, platforms are so badass, and they make me feel taller.
How has your style changed since coming to Baylor?
Freshman Sarah didn’t take enough risks. Now I don’t give a rat’s hat about what others think. If I feel like doing something and I like it, then I’m going to do it. You can do anything with confidence.
