Tori Templet
Classification: Freshman
Major: Journalism
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
The first time I met Tori Templet, she was in a thrifted blue jumpsuit, standing out in a sea of people. This girl is spunky, bold, and bright. With her own music on Spotify and loads of talent in her back-pocket, this girl is a shining star. Her style is original, lively, and sometimes hand-made. It is no wonder why she is this week’s So Hot Right Now.
In your own words, how would you describe your style?
I would say I’m different, funky and unique (laughs). I just like to be myself. I like to stand out from other people.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
Goodwill, literally any thrift store, Forever 21 (if I can find something good), Urban Outfitters, and I like H&M sometimes. I go to American Eagle for jeans— I love their jeans. Old navy is my go-to place for basics.
What are some thrifting tips you would like to share?
I allow myself - this sounds crazy - three hours to shop. I literally go through every item. Make sure to wear clothes that are easy to take on and off. A t-shirt, leggings and slip-on shoes are my go-to. For jeans, you have to have patience. Sometimes that golden pair of jeans is in there. Go through EVERYTHING.
From where or whom do you find your style inspiration?
Emma Chamberlain and her friend group. Also, definitely going on Pinterest. I have a board called “Ohohteedee,” where I have a whole lot of inspiration posted on there. I like stuff that makes a statement. I get a lot of my inspiration from pins not necessarily from people.
Does your music at all influence how you dress?
Yes, for sure. Even the music I listen to has an impact on how I dress. I listen to more alternative music. Billie Eilish is more angsty and one of my favorites. I try to be different with my clothes and my music. I like to be different than the pop artists. You can definitely tie music and fashion together.
Would you say Atlanta has morphed your wardrobe and your passion for clothes?
Yes. Honestly, not Atlanta as a whole, but Passion City Church for sure. There are a lot of fashion statements at my home church. I tag along with what people wear. People come as they are, not in typical church clothes. Most of my friends from Atlanta have edgy style. I find inspiration from them too.
Has your style changed since coming to Baylor?
Not really. I’ve found some new trends I like to wear. Nothing has really changed my style completely, though. If you ever see me in cowboy boots, scream at me!
What is a piece of style advice that you think everyone should hear?
Sounds cliche but be yourself. Let your clothes describe you. Be who you are. Honestly, I wear what reflects my personality because of first impressions. Sometimes people come up to me just because what I’m wearing is different and they think,“Oh! This girl looks cool.”
What is one article of clothing that you cannot live without?
Beanies! Especially in the wintertime. I get sad in the summer because I can’t wear my beanies.
If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it look like?
Ripped jeans, a tee and my Converse sneakers. It’s cute but still casual and comfy. If you just wear leggings all the time, you look like you're not trying. If you wear jeans, you are comfy but trying.
