With a cool sense of style and killer eye for vintage finds, Buttoned is proud to feature our very own, JJ Dickinson.  JJ doesn’t follow the trends, the trends follow her, making her someone who is obviously So Hot Right Now.

How would you describe your style?

I always joke that my style’s California English because it can be very minimalist but it’s also very cozy.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I love Madewell.  I love Everlane. I have some random favorites too like And Other Stories. I like a lot vintage clothes too so I’ll take them from my parents.

Where do draw style inspo from?

A lot from Instagram, like Garance Doré because she’s a fashion illustrator, and she also came out with a book a few years ago.  I get a lot of inspiration from my friends too. Like if she wears something that I couldn’t pull off with her style, but I can modify it to my own style and that inspires me.

How has your style changed since coming to Baylor?

I’ve gotten a lot braver with what I wear.  I think at first, I didn’t understand that people don’t really care what you wear, but if you’re confident in what you wear, then they notice that.  It’s been really cool finding my own confidence in my own clothing.

What is one article of clothing you cannot live without?

My jean jackets! Definitely.

If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I joke with my friends that I dress like an art teacher.  So I wear a lot of leggings and I have this dress that’s orange from Zara, kind of like a weird burnt orange color and I cut the sleeves off tomake it more comfortable.  So I’d probably wear that with a jean jacket.

What trends are you currently into?

I have been wearing a lot of pink lately, which is something I never thought I would say.  I kind of hate how much the millennial pink is a trend, but I’m kind of obsessed with it too. Also, I love that 90s style is coming back.

What has been your favorite part of Buttoned?

I love Buttoned because I’m not a fashion major, and I’m going into something that is so distinctly not fashion-related so getting to still be creative is really cool. Most of the time when I tell people that I’m going into hospital chaplaincy they’re shocked that I dress well. So it’s cool to combine the two.

What songs are you jamming to right now?

So Vampire Weekend is one of my favorite bands, and they’re coming out with new music right now, which is amazing. I’ve also been listening to a lot of podcasts recently. I’m going to Duke Divinity next year, and one of the pastors has a podcast about serious illnesses and people’s experiences which is a little depressing but super good. I also listen to a really funny podcast on NPR called Ask Me Another. It’s like if game shows were actually fun because I don’t really like them, but this podcast is so funny.
