With a classic style inspired from an arts influence, Buttoned’s very own Rachel Caldwell mixes masculine and feminine aesthetics to create a fashion forward look of her own. Rachel doesn’t follow trends but instead  focuses on having a timeless sense of style.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my style is timeless but inspired. I get a lot of my inspiration from the art that I study and from fashion periods of the past.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

That’s a hard one because I wouldn’t say that I shop very often. I try to avoid fast-fashion for both ethical and fiscal reasons. I love All Saints, Revice Denim, Daisy Jewelry, and smaller stores that I know will last a while. I also love Urban Outfitters and Free People.

What would you say influences your style the most, how?

Definitely art. I get a lot of my inspiration from classic paintings when it comes to my more feminine pieces, and I draw from more contemporary photographers for my masculine vibes.

Has your style changed in your time at Baylor?

I would say that it has just become more defined. I’ve definitely experimented more with my look. I’m actually about to get a fun new haircut! For the most part, I would say it’s enabled me to become more myself. 

What is one article of clothing you could not live without?

I could not live without my black boots. I wear them so often that I think most people don’t recognize me without them on. They’re a great staple piece that help to make any outfit a little more personal to me. 

What is your favorite trend at the moment?

Honestly, I’m not really hip on the trends (I know, I sound like a grandmother). I guess I would say gold jewelry? Is that even a trend? I like to think that true style doesn’t really change, it evolves. Fashion is fast, but style is forever. 

What was your favorite part of working for Buttoned through college?

I’ve loved getting to invest in the creative side of Baylor and Waco. I’ve worked for Buttoned for about three years now, so I’ve seen Waco go through a big shift in terms of creative offerings and reception of different ideas. It’s been nice to see us grow and adapt as time goes on.
