Dawson is an art-loving, preppy guy who loves to have a simple yet chic style. He is an intelligent person who loves to mix his love of art with his fashion. This is what makes him this week’s So Hot Right Now!
How would you describe your style?
My style is pretty preppy. I would say it’s more timeless than anything. I combine timeless pieces with more trendy ephemeral pieces to get a good mixture.
How has your fashion changed since coming to Baylor?
I had no fashion style or taste or anything at all when I came. It was just a Patagonia t-shirt and khaki shorts. Over the past few years, I broke from that and developed an actual sense of style.
What’s your favorite accessory or piece of clothing?
Either these linen pants from NN07 - it’s a Copenhagen brand. I wear them every day. I’m obsessed with them. They were like $400, but I got them on sale for $40. Also, my jewelry: my Alexander McQueen cuff - I wear it every day - or my Gucci ring. It’s my class ring. My dad wanted me to get a Baylor ring, and I said okay, but only if it’s from Gucci.
How do you turn your love for art into inspiration for your fashion?
I try to dress like I’m always going to an art museum. I like the art hoe style. It just looks so Parisian chic, especially for somewhere like Waco. People get out of bed wearing sorority t-shirts and go to class, and I think it’s fun to step out of that and clash with my location.
What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Buttoned team?
I think it’s so fun, especially at a school where people are more business or pre-med focused, that there is a group of people who are arts, fashion and lifestyle focused. I think it’s super cool to break out of the bubble of what Baylor is known for. Also, to meet others who are like-minded and share my passions.
What are you doing once you graduate from Baylor?
I am going to Parsons grad school for a Master of Arts in History of Design and Curatorial Studies. I can’t decide if I want to work in a curatorial setting in a museum or gallery, or in design publication with music or art or fashion. The program is amazing and set up for all of those, so I’m excited to see where I end up. Just excited to be in New York.
