How has your fashion evolved since coming to Baylor?
When I first got to Baylor, I wore what everyone else was wearing. My typical outfit was leggings, shorts and an oversized t-shirt - the basic sorority outfit. I just wore what I thought I needed to wear to look like everyone else. I would say my style has become more my own recently. Quarantine really played a role in how my style has evolved. During quarantine, obviously we weren’t allowed to go anywhere, so I was able to wear anything I wanted to wear. I realized that we are never guaranteed tomorrow, and who’s to say the event I have next week won’t get cancelled. So, I stopped saving outfits and just wore them to the grocery store, or to class, whenever and embraced what I want to wear.
What are your favorite trends going on right now?
This is a trend that I have done before it was a trend, but I really love the hair beret. My grandma gave me one many years ago, and I have always worn it but felt like a grandma. I really appreciate that now it is a trend, so I don’t feel like a grandma. I also really love the long maxi dress with sneakers because you look really put together without trying really hard. You can either dress it down with sneakers or dress it up with heels, so I feel like that’s a real day-to-night look. You can do so much with it.
How has fashion changed you?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been drawn to pretty clothes and pretty things, and the fashion world has been so attractive to me. I remember in 5th grade, I had a project for a documentary style video, and I did it on designer brands just because I was so attracted to the process of design for the runway. I feel like from a very young age, I have had a strong eye for fashion. I’ve also read Vogue since I was young, and it played a big role in my style and keeping up with what’s going on with the fashion world. The older I get, the more confident I become in what I’m wearing. Also, the Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies ever, and that’s always just made me want to be a part of that world.
What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Buttoned team?
Buttoned has been a really good opportunity to have a creative outlet. I started out as a writer. Then I became a photographer, and I also run the social media, so I feel like it has been a really great outlet to do things I have always wanted to do in more of a structure and organization. I love the team. I love meetings and getting to work with other creatives on different projects that we do and also showcasing people with unique styles on campus. One time, I saw a guy walking past me in the library who had an amazing style, and I chased after him and told him about Buttoned Bears and that I wanted to showcase him as a So Hot Right Now. I did do his photography. So, I showcase people who don’t dress like everyone else, and I get to do crazy things for Buttoned Bears.
What do you want people to know about being a part of a blog?
Just be yourself and use your voice. I feel like everyone brings a different perspective to a blog, and everyone brings a different flavor to the table. Embrace yourself and your uniqueness, because you bring a different aspect to the team, and that’s what makes it so great.
What are you doing once you graduate from Baylor?
I started grad school in January, so I will be sticking around in Waco until May of 2022. Post-grad, I really want to work for a magazine and live in New York for a year or two, but eventually, I want to move back to Fort Worth, my hometown, because I love it so much and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I do want to work for a magazine and just do stuff while I’m young that I will regret if I don’t.
