Ben Coleman has a knack for thrifting and putting together unique, casual looks. He draws inspiration from everything, from musicians to movies to Taco Bell Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freezes, and he’s the proud founder of Sweater Vest Saturday (trademark pending). With his cool, laid-back style, Ben is this week’s So Hot Right Now!

How would you define your style?

Fake indie boy but also kind of normcore but also kind of not. I like to wear relaxed outfits with muted tones for the most part, but I also enjoy wearing a colorful outfit every once in a while, like this one. This is my Baja Blast shirt. 

Where do you find the most style inspiration?

Definitely from musicians like Boy Pablo and King Krule. I get a lot of inspiration from movie characters, too. I watched The Shining twice last week; so many cool outfits. Also, just random posts on my Instagram explore page.

What are your favorite trends right now?

I’ve been trying to start a trend among my friends called Sweater Vest Saturday! So far, only a couple people have joined me. But I really like the DIY cutoff trend. That’s what I did with these jeans.

Where do you like to shop?

When I’m shopping for myself, I mainly just go to Goodwill or local thrift shops, but I feel like people sleep on Old Navy, at least for plain stuff! That’s where I got these jeans. 

What is one piece of clothing you cannot live without?

I have these green corduroy cutoff shorts that are just so comfortable and baggy, but they fit me so well at the same time; I would probably pass away if I lost them.

Who (real or fictional) is your style icon?

I got a lot of sweater vest inspiration from Boy Pablo. I feel like he’s super good at making pieces that would usually be formal look comfortable and casual. I also just love Shia Labeouf’s fashion. He’s a normcore god. 

How has your style changed since starting at Baylor?

It hasn’t changed too much, actually. I think I’m mainly just more confident wearing things that are kind of out of the ordinary. I think anyone can pull off anything if they feel confident in it.
