Uchenna keeps things relaxed and simple, but his laidback fashion sense is eye-catching nonetheless. His eye for thrifting and his down-to-earth, lo-fi style make him this week’s So Hot Right Now.
How would you define your style? It’s hard for me to put it in a box, especially since my sense of style changes throughout the year. I told my friend the other day that if you looked in my closet you would think five different people lived there. It can be all over the place. It’s hard to put it in a box.
Where do you find the most style inspiration? Instagram easily. I follow a decent amount of people into fashion, and I get new inspiration every day. People who inspire me to dress better are Steve Lacy and Tyler, the Creator.
What are your favorite trends right now? I don’t have any favorite trends. I try not to follow trends. I’m kind of picky about what I choose to wear. I try to wear things I think are cool, and I wear it until I don’t think it’s cool anymore.
Where do you like to shop? I shop through thrift. I occasionally go on Depop, but not as much anymore. In Austin, there’s a store called Pavement. Whenever I’m in the city, I love going there. I always walk out with something every time I go there; there is always something there that catches my eye. But really, it’s just thrift stores in general.
What is one piece of clothing you cannot live without? That would have to be my pair of bapesta, these black ones, I cannot live without them, I love them. They’re my favorite go-to shoe. If I feel like throwing something on and looking live-ish, I just throw those on.
Who is your style icon? Tyler, the Creator. He doesn’t miss.
How has your style changed since staring at Baylor? I used to wear skinny jeans, tuck in my t-shirt, cuff my jeans, and wear vans, very Tumblr 2018. Bad time period. I moved away from that. I wear baggier clothes now, oversize t-shirts, and boot-cut jeans and my taste in shoes has kind of stayed the same just now I have incorporated more versatility. It’s changed a lot since freshman year of college.
